These are some gold cufflinks we made for our customer recently. The process began as usual on our Custom Jewelry page. I worked with the customer to create this design which includes their Family crest hand engraved on the face of the cufflinks.
We begin with a sheet of gold where I mark out the shape. Using my piercing frame I cut out the shapes of the cufflinks. Once these are cut out, I stamped them with my Maker's Mark and then send the cufflinks to Dublin Castle. There, the assay office tests the quality of the gold and add the remaining stamps so that all our jewellery has a full Irish hallmark.
When they return from Dublin Castle I can then begin to clean and polish them and solder the cufflinks fittings onto the back.
Once they are cleaned and polished they are ready for engraving. All are engraving is done by hand. Each family has a different crest and coat of arms so if a customer wants to to request a specific coat of arms just contact us with the surname and we research exactly which coat-of-arms is correct for the family. (Read more about family crests).
On these cufflinks, the customer wanted to include the full shield coat of arms as well as the crest on top.
